Summary
HekaCopy is a clipboard history extension that stores all data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data or clipboard content. The extension performs no network requests.
What data HekaCopy handles
HekaCopy handles only the text you explicitly choose to save. Text can enter the clipboard history via:
- The context menu option “Save to HekaCopy” (always enabled)
- The “Save on text selection” feature, when enabled by the user (Alt + selection, or Ctrl+Shift+C)
- The “Capture all copy operations” feature, when enabled by the user (captures every Ctrl+C, right-click Copy, or equivalent operation performed inside the browser)
This may include any content present on web pages you interact with, including user-generated text, public information, or personal data you intentionally copy. When the “Capture all copy operations” feature is enabled, any text you copy inside the browser — including potentially sensitive data like passwords (except from fields explicitly marked as passwords, which are automatically skipped), personal identifiers, or confidential content — will be stored in the local clipboard history. Users should use this feature with care and periodically review or clear their clipboard history.
The extension also stores your preferences (language, theme, blacklist, maximum items, feature toggles) and the hostname of the page where each clipboard entry was captured (for display purposes only).
Sites added to the blacklist are never read or captured, regardless of which features are enabled.
Where the data is stored
Chrome: All data is stored exclusively on your device using Chrome’s extension storage APIs (chrome.storage.local for pinned items and settings, chrome.storage.session for the session history). Data never leaves your device and is not accessible by any remote server or third party. Pinned items persist across browser restarts. Non-pinned items are cleared when the browser is closed.
Firefox: All data is stored exclusively on your device using the browser’s extension storage APIs (storage.local for pinned items and settings, storage.session for the session history). Data never leaves your device and is not accessible by any remote server or third party. Pinned items persist across browser restarts. Non-pinned items are cleared when the browser is closed.
